But when he meets the Bristol Butchers, all that changes. They are a pair of psychopaths - cannibals. He chases them in spite of the disabling curse they cast on him, in spite of their threats to his family, and when he catches up to them, his horror begins. Summary
Meet Harry Dresden, Chicago's first (and only) Wizard PI. Turns out the "everyday" world is full of strange and magical things - and most of them don't play well with humans. That's where Harry comes in.
A bargain made with the Queen of Air and Darkness has forced Dresden into a new job: professional killer. His first task is to bring death to an immortal. As if that wasn't hard enough, Dresden learns of a danger to Demonreach, the living island hidden upon Lake Michigan. A danger that could destroy billions and land Dresden in the deepest trouble he has ever known.
Dresden has only 24 hours to gather the allies he has left and prevent a cataclysm - all while the power he bargained to get, but never meant to keep, lays siege to his very soul. Magic - it can get a guy killed.

I cant wait for the next book. I only found the Dresden files books 3 weeks ago after reading a review here. I have since listened to all 14 books and they are truly brilliant gripping edge of your seat story lines with fantastic laugh out loud moments, delivered flawlessly by James Masters. Like old shoes, comftable but not that smart.
Okay firstly I really enjoyed this audio book, the performance as always was brilliant. He is Harry Dresden.
As to the story, I love the characters and really like hanging out with them, I enjoy the pace and interactions. As to the plot - hmmm I could not really give a fig about what was going on, I was concerned of course for the characters I love but sadly the series has become formulaic. I will keep coming back probably forever but for the characters not the story, if this was my first entry into the series I would probably not return.
If this is going to be you first entrance into the series, stop turn around and begin with Storm Front. Maybe four stars was generous.....

Back with a bang!
Would you consider the audio edition of Cold Days to be better than the print version?
I have read all of the Dresden files and loved most of them. "Changes" was one of my favourites but I was disappointed by "Ghost Story". Cold Days is much closer to the good old days. The audio book was great, very involving narration and the book is the usual blend of comedy, action, loveable characters and wonderful storytelling. The story arc through all of the books is engrossing and imaginative and the developments in this story are great and shocking.
What did you like best about this story?
The ending. Give me morre!
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The climax on Demonreach or the ball in Winter.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Totally. When reading the previous books it was totally a page-turner and this book was no different.
Any additional comments?
I cannot recommend this range of books more. I wouldn't read this book before the previous ones though it would still be good but the depth of story will be lost. Perhaps it would inspire readers/listeners to seek out the others.

Good but not great
Would you try another book written by Jim Butcher or narrated by James Marsters?
I enjoy the Jim Butcher Dresden series, read and listened to every book so far and I will continue to follow the series, however I have never considered his other books, I may sometime buy one to try. James Masters was fantastic as usual and I could listen to hi all day
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
This ending in the series I thought was fairly predictable and by the time I got to the end I knew what was going to happen, however I am intrigued where Butcher will take the main characters from here.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I like that we are seeing a slightly darker side to Dresdens character in this book, particularly when he is fighting the erkling. The thought of Dresden as a bit of a badass is pretty cool.
Do you think Cold Days needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Harry Dresden seems to be getting himself deeper and deeper into trouble, I can't wait to se how he will get out of it eventually, or will it all end badly?

A fantastic listen!!
What made the experience of listening to Cold Days the most enjoyable?
James Marsters was a great choice to narrate this book, he makes the story come to life, the wit of Harry and the cast.
We were expecting some answers with this audiobook and instead left with even more questions! Excellent!
What did you like best about this story?
Harry is doing what he didn't want to do and stubbornly doing it his way. As always a great listen.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Demonreach... That is all I can say without giving too much away.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it was hard as my husband was also listening to it, so we had to be a little patient.

Rough ride
An enjoyable reread (in the hopes of the next book coming out one day.)
Harry is brought back and, as always in his life, things just keep getting worse and worse. Being the Winter Knight brings him a lot of power but the difficulty of the things he has to do are raised exponentially. The politics of Faery are impossible for a mortal to understand well and poor Harry mucks up a lot.

James Marsters is as always brilliant!
What did you love best about Cold Days?
Once again Jim Butcher brings us into his magical world with a great plot, many twists and cliffhangers before Harry once again emerges the victor after much sacrifice.
Which character – as performed by James Marsters – was your favorite?
Harry Dresden James Marsters is Harry Dresden and I cannot imagine anyone else reading these books.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There are always plenty of tears and laughs in a Harry Dresden book.
Any additional comments?
James Marsters is a master of the performance of an audio book. His voice is excellent, his cast of charachter voices unbelievable and consistent. It's a pleasure to listen and hard to turn it off to get back to RL especially when combined with the writings of Jim Butcher.
