Summary

Mrs Gentle has fooled everyone into thinking she is as sweet as she sounds - Gentle by name and gentle by nature. But local constable Hamish Macbeth isn't fooled. He believes this little old lady is actually quite sly and vicious, but he's in a minority of one. Or is he?

When Mrs Gentle dies under unusual circumstances, the villagers of Lochdubh are shocked and outraged. Chief Detective Inspector Blair suspects that members of her family may be involved but Hamish thinks there's much more to the story - and is willing to get rough to solve the riddle of Mrs Gentle's mysterious demise.

M.C. Does it again!

I love Agatha Raisin books, so easy going and just a tad on the silly side! Not to mention the national treasure Penelope Keith reading them, so I decided to give her other hero Hamish McBeth a try as well! Excellent! Fantastic descriptions that put you right in the heart of rural Scotland and wonderful colourful characters! I totally recommend this easy listening book! Enjoy!

A good listen for Hamish Macbeth fans

This series is a strange mix of who-dun-it and humour that will either appeal to you or not. It greatly appeals to me although I only discovered Hamish Macbeth about 4 books ago. This is the first audible version of the stories I have listened to and I approached with some trepidation incase it spoilt my own mental image of this highly likeable policeman and highland setting. There was no need to worry this is read beautifully by David Monteath who conjures up exactly the same images for me as when I read the books myself. There is enough 'plot' in the books to make you try and stretch the little grey cells but they provide a nice light intermission amongst darker crime novels that you may be reading or listening to. I am at this moment downloading Book 24!

Marvellous

Yet again Beaton has given us a wonderfully entertaining story about Hamish and the Highlands of Scotland. All her books are so good and this series is expertly narrated by Monteath

Gentle story

Enjoyable as always but little to mark this one out as special. Not wonderfully narrated.

Unique storyline

This is a very unusual idea for a story, and very enjoyable. M C Besron has a talent for benign but interesting plots.
