Summary
You can't choose your family. Or can you?
Meet the Bensons. A pleasant enough couple. They keep themselves to themselves. They wash their car, mow their lawn and pass the time of day with their neighbours. And they have a beautiful little girl called Daisy.
There's just one problem. Daisy doesn't belong to the Bensons. They stole her. And now they've decided that Daisy needs a little brother or sister.
DS Nathan Cody is about to face his darkest and most terrifying case yet....

Jackson Makes it a Hat Trick!
David Jackson has done it again. Another excellent story for his lead Nathan Cody featuring great drama, strong characters and another highly impressive reading by Jonathan Keeble. The first thing to say though is that having so many characters in one accent is tough for any narrator. I think Keeble does a cracking job of differentiating so many in what is clearly not his native accent. Some, I feel sure, are going to struggle to like them though so maybe the audio sample is a good starting point. In all other aspects the narration is simply top class without any reservations.
Assuming you are okay with the narration the story itself is a clever one with what I thought was an excellent twist at the end which although it was signalled throughout I simply never saw coming. Cody's back story does not progress a great deal which the previous book had strongly suggested was coming but structurally it would have been difficult to fit this into this story which occupies a fairly brief period of time. Jackson is going to make us wait for that back story to develop it seems.
In short it's another excellent thriller in the series, and oh dear it's another one I need to keep track of. Too many damn good authors too little time!

Formulaic but OK
Maybe I listen to too many crime novels but my heart sank when the clichés of the genre were rolled out in this book. Detectives with broken, dysfunctional relationships, and stroppy senior detectives, now always female, railing at staff to get results. Kidnapped children kept in solitary confinement as a topic has been done too often and the story was mainly predictable except the tagged on ending. I listened as I did other things.
The narrator is excellent and kept me listening when I might other wise have given up.

Top marks !!
I listened to this book in the car. I found myself sitting waiting for the end of the chapter before I got out. I counted. I’ve listened to 62 audiobooks. This was one of the best ! Excellent twist at the end. I’m sorry it’s finished. Roll on the next book

One of the best suspense books ever
Loved this book for the sense of foreboding and peril. Loved the characters of the girls and obviously root for Cody and Megan. All round great book read expertly by the best storyteller in the business Mr Keeble.
Highly recommended

great as ever
David Jackson has not disappointed. This 3rd book was brilliant, I had it read in the one day and I look forward until the 4th book. Jonathon Keeble did a fantastic job with the narration. I strongly recommend this book, so many twists and turns. A gripping read.

Creepy as hell but excellent story
I really enjoyed the previous books in this series but I think this is possibly the best so far. It's a pretty creepy theme but the story is well structured and the performance is excellent.

SURPRISE ENDING
without giving anything away the ending took the storyline to the last paragraph totally encapsulating fully believable. it still leaves that thread of unanswered questions re cody's past and leaves you wanting the next book
