Summary

From the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of From Blood and Ash, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Fall of Ruin and Wrath is a scorching romance with high stakes, breathtaking magic and a searing enemies-to-lovers romance.

She lives by her intuition. He feeds on her pleasure . . .

Long ago, the world was destroyed by gods. Only nine cities were spared. Separated by vast wilderness teeming with monsters and unimaginable dangers, each city is now ruled by a guardian – royalty who feed on mortal pleasure.

Born with an intuition that never fails, Calista knows her talents are of great value to the power-hungry of the world, so she lives hidden as a courtesan of the Baron of Archwood. In exchange for his protection, she grants him information. When her intuition leads her to save a travelling prince in dire trouble, the voice inside her blazes with warning – and promise. Today he’ll bring her joy. One day he’ll be her doom.

When the Baron takes an interest in the prince, and the prince takes an interest in Calista, she becomes the latter’s temporary companion. But the city simmers with rebellion, and with knights and monsters at her city gates and a hungry prince in her bed, intuition may not be enough to keep her safe. Calista must choose: follow her intuition to safety or follow her heart to her downfall.

Fall of Ruin and Wrath is a captivating romantic fantasy from a mega bestselling author and global sensation.

Another amazing creation by JLA

This book is the first part of a new world created by JLA and is amazing, full of banter, adventures, world building and spice. Narrator managed to build beautifully to the mood of the book, I enjoyed this audio version a lot.

She’s done it again! Love love love!

Just want you would expect from JLA I love her other book series’s and this one is a classic JLA story with the same feel of her other series blood and ash. It’s got everything you could want spice, war and scary celestials. I can’t wait for the next book I hope there is one I need to know what happens!

Fascinating new world from JLA

I’ll start with perhaps the least expected in the review - the Narrator Soneela Nankani. She is a first for me and I listen to a LOT of books. And what a find! Just when you think Stina Nielsen has an imprint in JLA’s high fantasy and no one can come even close, Soneela comes along and knocks my socks off with the beautiful performance. Especially of male voices, especially Thorn’s voice. [sigh] all so beautifully done and I really hope we’ll get to hear more of this talented narrator!

As for the Fall of Ruin and Wrath - what can I say. I went in without even reading the blurb. Clearly JLA is one of the favorite and beloved authors but with any new series you still have a tiny bit of hesitation before you start wondering “how will this go then”, especially before her Blood and Ash / Flesh and Fire series are finished. But I love the strategy of giving us something else to pine over while we all get heartbroken that the other books are coming to an end.

In short - I loved it. Lis is fab and refreshing in her attitude and demeanour after all the virginity we normally get from high fantasy romance. And Thorn is as Machiavellian as JLA can make them. Loved both of these characters, separately as well as together. I even loved side characters like Claude, Grady, Naomi and what JLA did with characters like cousin Hymall. Loved the idea of Lords Bas and Raz, can’t wait to hear more about them. There is lots to love. And there is lots to anticipate.

Cannot - I can’t stress this enough - CANNOT wait for the next book/s.

not sure how to feel

In many ways it was an enjoyable book. But if you've read her other books, you could definitely hear the same jokes and storylines being used, and ended on a cliffhanger as per usual, so I will probably listen to the next one in the series just to get some peace of mind.

Good but ‘samey’

Storyline so far feels like accumulation of other various series by author (which have thoroughly enjoyed), bit disappointed main character same telepathic powers as Poppy and unknown heritage again feels predictable but it’s only book one so guess lot could change? Well read by narrator.

Very hot

if you like a steamy read 📚 this book is for you. The storyline is like others she's used before but differs to keep you interested. I read the next instalments on the back of this one if/when written.
