Summary
Napoleon and Wellington are one of history's most fascinating pairings, vividly symbolising the adversarial nature of French and English relations in the 17th century. Simon Scarrow brings this revolutionary time to life in this vivid historical account.
Fire and Sword is the pause-resisting third novel in Simon Scarrow's best-selling Wellington and Napoleon Quartet. A must-listen for fans of Robert Harris.
It's 1804. Napoleon Bonaparte is emperor of France, his ultimate aim to rule Europe. After defeat at the Battle of Trafalgar, he wins a glorious victory against Austria at Austerlitz. He then deposes the Spanish king and places his own brother on the throne. But he is yet to triumph over his most hated enemy: Great Britain.
Arthur Wellesley (the future Duke of Wellington) throws himself into the British campaign in Europe. After glory in Portugal, he commands the army in a series of triumphant battles across Spain. For those living reluctantly under French rule, his victories suggest that Napoleon's progress is not inexorable: freedom can be restored....

A surprise to me ....
I wouldn't have chosen this book but decided to take a listen when the first book in the series was a Daily Deal.
I have now listened to 3 of them so far (of which this the 3rd).
The narrator is brilliant and really brings the story alive.
Surprise yourselves and have a listen.

Brilliant!
I have had an interest in this historical period for many years. I wish this trilogy of books had been written earlier as they provide both a grand sweep of the life and times of Wellington and Napoleon as well as fascinating details. All three books are brilliantly crafted and completely held my attention over many hours of listening.
But them all! Enjoy them!

History brought alive
Simon Scarrow adds drama and humanity in all its guises to the bald facts of history. Marvellous narration.

Brilliant
I went onto the second book with great anticipation and I was not disappointed. Again, beautifully read, bringing the characters and the history to life and only pleased that there was another book waiting!

As good if not better than the first two books of the series. I am looking forward to see the culmination of this fascinating story.

Excellent
Well narrated and a cracking story, well done with the parallel storytelling of the two personalities.
