Clunk, a clapped-out robot, is convinced he's about to be junked. Instead, his penny-pinching boss is sending him off to be refurbished. the series grew on me after the first book
quite Australian in some of the humour and my second attempt to get into the series after having failed to finish the first book. it does get better albeit you find yourself cringing at the japes

Fantastic
Listened to this for second time and even better. If you like fun and space with robots this is the series for you. Written just for the none serious listener who enjoys a laugh and the narrator is brilliant too
Please ignore the low score reviews I suspect they were hard sci fi nuts who enjoy the miseries life brings along
To author please continue the series and Clunk and Hal need to have more adventures or if done can you get on audible from book 4

Brilliant Humour, pleasantly read
Having already ready up to part the way through Book three I already loved the books. Once I got accustomed to Graeme Hagues Australian accent I grew to really like his style.
The Hal Spacejock series is the reading and audio equivalent of Red Dwarf as a reasonable comparison but in a very different style. The Author Simon Haynes has a really unique way of conveying great humour in written form that I found absolutely brilliant and being able to actually have the books read to me simply enhanced his craft.
I really thing the Hal Spacejock Books would work very well as a TV series - just saying

brilliant load of old rubbish
Perfect light listening, ridiculous characters in ridiculous situations with even more ridiculous escapes. The narrator is prefect for a future of an Aussie style galactic civilisation, complete with deals done is shady 'space pubs', at one point I was laughing out loud in the supermarket like a nutter at the reading of an australian robot impersonating a cockney,
A great example of the genre of ripping yarns, good old fashioned unpretentious entertainment, downloading his next omnibus as I type this, my first ever review after 400 books. It you like silliness, you will love this.

Loved it
Just my type of humour, doesn't take itself too seriously. Once I got used to the narrators accent I enjoyed it immensely. Comparisons with red dwarf are fair but it's no clone.
One reviewer didn't like it , describing it as juvenile, I enjoyed it for precisely the same reason. "How much is the robot in the window ? The one with the squeegee and pail". Love it.
I went on to get ,a portion of dragon and chips omnibus, which is equally daft and juvenile and seriously silly.
More please !

Story more padded than a AAA game
Good writing and excellent voice acting, but the story is not so great.
1st as per headline. I don't think there would be enough material to fill a 30 minutes sitcom episode. I'm not talking about the audiobook's 8 duration, but about what's going on in those 8 hrs.
2nd, I love the lovable goof trope. I actually look for sci-fi books with this sort of character. The downside is that the longer a book series is the more idiotic they become. It tends to get to the point where Darwinism would have prevented them from still being alive in the current society. Considering that these are the first books in a series, Hal is almost there already...
3rd While I'm perfectly fine with outlandish solutions that somehow work in solving the problem. I do expect a bit more than a Wylie coyote solution, but that's my taste.
All in all, in my opinion, individually the books are not worth it, but as a pack it's ok.

Poor
Probably the worst audiobook I have ever listened to. Plot, narration, sound effects, excitement all ‘null points’. I do not wish to offend anyone who is a creative but this didn’t float my boat - at all - sorry.

Shaggy Dog Stories
These are the tales (which are more like shaggy dog stories) of an airhead. I managed to finish the compilation although much of it was just background listening and mainly for the supporting cast that are much funnier than Hal who is is such a twonk I fail to understand how he could even get into these situations let alone out of them.
The narration isn’t brilliant either being somewhat dull and lacking intonation in a way that reminded me of children reading aloud in class who have no idea what the next words are going to be, never mind the sentence.
