About this listen

Following the lead of Florence Nightingale, Steve’s partner in Eternity, he has returned to Hell to ease the suffering of the Damned. Yet Steve is faced with a dilemma. What can he do that will offer more than a brief respite from everlasting torment? And how can he make it funny at the same time?

In Steve’s search for meaningful employment in the Afterlife, he has one comic misadventure after another. Along the way, he meets a few new angels and a couple of saints. He even learns what may be one of the great secrets of the universe...or maybe not.

And all the while, something’s bothering him. Too many people who have been consigned to Hell just don’t seem to belong there. Steve is determined to find out why, whether Satan likes it or not.

Especially if Satan doesn’t like it. After all, Steve is no angel. He’s a little bit good, a little bit bad, and a whole lot of trouble!

I’m No Angel Is the fifth volume in the satire/fantasy comedy series, Circles in Hell. It has been compared to other works of "hell fiction" including The Screwtape Letters and Good Omens and to the paranormal humor of Tom Holt, Christopher Moore, and Douglas Adams.

A heartwarming conclusion to a hilarious series

It is with an almost teary eye that I say goodbye to Steve Minion (Hell's Superintendent of Plant Maintenance), and his friends and foes: Florence Nightingale, Orson Welles, St Peter, Beezy (short for Beelzebub, one of the Princes of Hell), and many more. "I'm No Angel" - and the rest of the Circles in Hell series - was a highly entertaining story, hilarious, easy to read/listen to and, at times, even educative! I read the first two books on Kindle and listened to the last 3 after I got an Audible account. Changing mediums took a bit of adjusting to at first, particularly when Michael Gilboe voices the female characters (I'll admit, I found his way of bringing them to life rather annoying when I started), but I eventually got into it. Based on Dante's Inferno for the backdrop (with some artistic license), Mark Cain weaves a delightful tale of what it means to try your best, even when the odds are more than stacked against you (read: when you're damned, in hell). I definitely recommend the whole series. Fans of "Good Omens" will most certainly enjoy this. And I know that a 6th title has come out on Kindle ("Beelzebub: A Memoir"), so thankfully, the goodbye will be short-lived, and I'll get my fix soon!
Edited to add: The 6th book is now on Audible! Yay!!

Great circles in hell

I’ve listened to the whole series up to this book and I’ve loved them all. They are well written, exciting and lots of fun. Mark Cain has done a great job writing and Michael Gilboe does a brilliant job with the narration. I don’t normally write reviews but had to this time.
