About this listen
In addition to strength, steel, and courage, a hero discovers he's in need of a friend, in the first installment of a daring and dangerous fantasy adventure.
When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has . . . Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere.
Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway. Naturally, Daniel is classified as a "hero," while Orrin is—also naturally—relegated to the fantasy equivalent of "bleh." Nothing new there.
But in this realm populated with lethal foes both inhuman and inescapable, sticking together matters more than ever, and soon Daniel and Orrin will discover more about themselves—and each other—than either one thought possible. In fact, Orrin just might find the confidence and strength to become something other than your average sidekick . . .
The first volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than 600,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Very good
The actual story was very good but the annoying emphasis on titles was bad

Strange Emphasis
Whilst the book and narration were incredible for the most part, the strange emphasis on the names of skills and abilities was utterly jarring and kept ruining the immersion. I can understand them being emphasised when specifically mentioned by the system, but by people talking about them? "Let's go save the [HERO] then." Just does not flow well.

Titles and skills
Good book, but the robot voice whenever someone said a skill name or title was very annoying. like, people don't change to a monotone mid sentence while talking, so why is the narrator doing it? Doesn't Podium have 'proof readers' ?

Smart characters
loved that the characters that were portrayed as intelligent were infact actually intelligent amd capable, hate it when a book says a character is smart then they proceed to to the most stupid things

A feel good book
Not often I come across a book like this. It’s nice when the mc isn’t the mc. I really love the way the author builds the story and characters. It grows the content slow and logical. There’s a lot of banter that brings out the characters. Many twists and turns in the story plot which keeps you involved. The narrator did a fine job creating the characters which is, I think, hard for single narrators to accomplish. So well done to the narrator!
I just have to wait till summer for the next book.
All I can say is a 5* review is required.

Great story
thoroughly enjoyable book I found it a little weird that some of the words were emphasized in a very interesting way I didn't mind it it was just not something I've heard before like HERO! and UTILITY WARDER!

highly enjoyable
This fits neatly into the very specific niche of fiction I crave, and is well executed.
I just finished a relisten, and am still impressed by the high quality narration. The clarity and diversity of the voices are a delight.
(I'm not the most critical listener but none of the technical parts of the story rubbed me the wrong way nor did I notice any plot holes.)
Overall I enjoyed the characters, pacing, and the switches between focusing on outside and interpersonal conflict

Only one problem with this one.
Every skill, ability and title is read like they are written down [IN ALL CAPITALS AND BRACKETED] completely destroying the narrative flow and pulling me out of the story. Once you notice it, you cant un-notice it.
The story itself is fairly standard, I definitely liked that people are more self serving and have their own agendas while everyone completely misses the friend is also from another world giving more options and angles to work in their favour.
