About this listen
In Harm's Way is a gripping psychological thriller, with elements of domestic noir and mystery. Perfect for fans of authors like Mark Edwards, Gillian Flynn and Ann Cleeves.
The Baxter house has been on the estate agent’s books for decades. Dilapidated and near derelict, nobody is interested in it. But, for one buyer, the remote location and rat-infested cellar are perfect.
For the first year, Mackenzie’s marriage to Derek was ideal. But Derek believes she is having an affair, and when she realises her husband is becoming controlling, she knows she’s made a terrible mistake.
When she threatens to leave and then disappears, no one believes she has been abducted. DS Geddes is handed the case but isn’t convinced anything criminal has taken place until a startling development comes to light.
Has Mackenzie been abducted, or has she left her husband? And who has bought the Baxter house and for what purpose?

good listen
a good story, twisted in a way I hadn't thought it would, nice having a Scottish voice, reading a Scottish story. was a bit slow to get started, but then really gripped me.

warning, super depressing book!
pretty miserable listening, though well written and well acted, the narrator was a bit too quiet to hear sometimes, but if you turn it up, he's bellowing next minute, glad it's over, need a cheery story next 🙂 .

how little the police actually did.
story good but the police seemed to have only a supporting role. the bulk of the detective work was done by Gavin.

The narrator and the writer work so well together. I was hooked from the first word to the last word
I loved the narration and the twist at the end. Looking forward to reading more books by the same author and listening to more books by the narrator

thriller with characters
if you had to name this books genre you might say psychological thriller. that one imply a book of many complex twist and turns. this book has some twist and turns, but quite a lot of straight lines too where things plod on. these though are what set this book apart. the author allows time to develop characters, and to reveal a family's complex dynamic. these passages are written with literary style and elegance, and tee up the plot twist when they arrived. overall the story is original and chillingly convincing, the characters seeming fully formed and with depth. I'll close over the final melodrama which just seemed unnecessary.
finally, I should note the audio book is excellently performed

Interesting and got good
At first I wasn't sure what to make of this book, at the beginning I wasn't sure if I would finish but I am glad that I preserved. It is such an interesting premise, what do you do when someone disappears and they have issues. It really worked in the end. I liked the narration it got me engaged.
Will listen to more by both author and narrator.
