Ina May Gaskin
About this listen
Drawing upon her 40-plus years of experience, Ina May Gaskin, the nation's leading midwife, shows the benefits and joys of physiological childbirth by showing women how to trust the ancient wisdom of their bodies for a healthy and fulfilling birthing experience.
Based upon the midwifery model of care that recognizes that spontaneous labor in healthy women cannot be improved upon, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth gives expectant mothers comprehensive information on everything from the all-important mind-body connection to how to give birth without technological intervention-as well as how to know when such intervention is necessary.
Filled with inspiring birth stories and practical advice, this invaluable resource includes:
- Reducing the pain of labor without drugs and the amazing role that touch and free movement play.
- What really happens during labor.
- Orgasmic birth-testimonies from those who experienced it.
- And much more...

Truly one of the best book I have ever read
Wow , I believe such an awesome and amazing informative book should be read by every woman and future mum and also by the man that want to understand and help their woman to be healthy and safe before any step you make in your pregnancy and labour. Knowledge is Power

Great
Wonderful account of Gaskin’s knowledge, inspirations and experience. This book is full of useful information and anecdotes about many different aspects of pregnancy, labour and breastfeeding. I feel way more confident and prepared to attempt an unmedicated birth having read this and I am also far more aware of my rights as a labouring woman, what I can firmly say no to without endangering anybody. If you can get over the stepford wife narration, I would recommend this book to all pregnant women. Wish Ina May could be my midwife.

Refreshing
Refreshing to be reminded as an expecting first time mother that my body is built for birthing. Made me question modern day midwifery which seems to add an air of danger to birthing. We need more Ina Mays in the world.

Invaluable for anyone expecting a baby
My husband and I listened to this book and found it very informative! For us it was still a bit too medicalised as we are planning a Freebirth but for anyone with fears or wanting to learn more about the reality of birth, it is an amazing resource! The voice takes some getting used to as its a little robotic but the content is so interesting that its a small price to pay.

The “bible” for every pregnant woman
I consider this the ultimate preparation guide, not only for childbirth but for natural childbirth. The best are all
The birth stories- different, authentic and still showing that there is no “one way to birthing your child”, nevertheless birth can be experienced positively no matter what.

Unlistenable
The narration is terrible. I had to stop after 15 minutes. The start of every sentence fades in so you can’t catch what she’s saying. You really have to concentrate to fill in the gaps which does not make for easy listening. And the narrator’s voice is so monotonous; it has no rhythm or tone - she sounds like a robot. Given the subject matter you would expect someone to deliver the words in an empathetic and animated way. Such a shame as this book is iconic and I really would have loved to listen to it.

Computerised narrator!
I’ve heard great things about this book but shall have to read it, the voice of the narrator of the audiobook seems to have been put through a computer. It’s hideous to listen to.
