Summary

It’s time to change the way we see babies.

Drawing on principles developed by the educator Dr Maria Montessori, The Montessori Baby shows how to raise your baby from birth to age one with love, respect, insight, and a surprising sense of calm. Cowritten by Simone Davies, author of the bestselling The Montessori Toddler, and Junnifa Uzodike, it’s a book filled with hundreds of practical ideas for understanding what is actually happening with your baby, and how you can mindfully assist in their learning and development. Including how to:

  • Prepare yourself for parenthood—physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.
  • Become an active observer to understand what your baby is really telling you.
  • Create Montessori spaces in your home, including “yes” spaces where nothing is off-limits.
  • Set up activities that encourage baby’s movement and language development at their own pace
  • Raise a secure baby who’s ready to explore the world with confidence.

Critic reviews

"The guide is thoughtfully and beautifully laid out: block text, bulleted lists, and simple line illustrations accent the many anecdotes about babies and their living spaces from around the world. For parents interested in Montessori concepts of child development, this will be an invaluable resource.”—Publisher's Weekly Starred Review

“A book that advocates a simple environment with less stuff, less fuss, and a slower speed of life.”—Library Journal

Interesting and informative

The book has many interesting and insightful ideas on how to handle and nurture newborns and babies in general. Some of them may be inconvenient or impractical, but overall I enjoyed it very much and with some trial and error and adjustment it can be a comprehensive guide on many aspects. The narrator was also very good: soothing but confident voice and very well articulated.

A.I VOICE

I thought it was meant to be a humans voice, whole reason I pay for a subscription.

In some cases visual is required

While listening to the story they mention tables or pictures which would be interesting to visualise. This is missing. Maybe it could be added to the pop up screen

A bit repetitive

I really like the narrator, she has a really warm, joyful tone to her voice.

I think the information in the book is really good and I have added the further book recommendations to my listening list. However, I find it quite repetitive. You could listen to/read the first few chapters and leave it there as so much of it is repeated. That may help some people learn, but not me, I switch off and then miss out on any additional information.

Not saying it's bad; it's a great book with some fantastic information and theories, just too repetitive for me.

Sounds like an advert

If I had a dollar for every time they drop the Montessori name.
I could not get to halfway, not sure I will finish it. Long-winded, repetitive, spews common sense and requires you to buy things (babies don't need things!) Sad I spent a credit on this book.
