About this listen
There have always been Mountain Men. Their names are legendary. Their motives unknown. Until now.
Over four centuries, one by one, they changed the course of human history. Occasionally, some of them were even quite good at it. Like most things in life, successful revolutions take a bit of practise.
Only they knew their identity and purpose, but someone has discovered their secrets. Now the actions of the Mountain Men are being re-enacted in the 21st century and there’s twelve billion dollars up for grabs for anyone willing to help.
Dr Ally Oldfield isn’t bothered by the money. She’s much more interested in why she’s being framed for most of it, and why it involves her own murky past?
History is creating chaos, but the only history Ally can’t figure out, is her own.
The Last of the Mountain Men is the second novel featuring Dr Ally Oldfield after The End of the World is Nigh. This is a standalone novel but listeners who loved the last book will be rewarded with lots of references to the first book.
If you love "who dunnits" with lots of history and comedy, then what are you waiting for? Get stuck in.

I want the next one already!
Brilliant storytelling again and another great combination of fiction and history. I laughed so much too. Can't wait for the next in the series.

Makes you think and laugh
I find myself going to Wikipedia whilst listening to these Ally audiobooks. Lots of facts in history based on political people as characters. And wow is the clumsy assistant funny. All the characters in this book make me laugh. Gabrielle is hilarious too, in her crazy way.

As Good as the first!
I loved the first book in the series and I love this one just as much.
I don't want to say much except if you were unsure after book one especially due to Ally ( who I actually like) then this one gives her backstory and you begin to understand why she acts as she does to the outside world plus her adventure is again one which is different from your usual crime/ suspense novels.
It could be listened before book one, without you missing out on much as enough information is given in this book to ensure this.
I am definitely waiting eagerly for the next adventure and with Tony Moyle's imagination, I could not even guess where that will take us.
Once again Aubrey Parsons reads the book at the correct pace with superb character impressions.
I was given this book for free in return for an honest review but I already had it on my wish list and would have bought it anyway and I stand by every word I wrote.

A great book but dreadful narration
Moyle has a great sense of the absurd and his humour is wonderfully sarcastic, giving overtones of Jodi Taylor and Robert Rankin. The story dovetails nicely with the previous volume, and gives us an insight into Ally’s past.
What spoils things (again) is the narration. Ally is made to sound like Lee Mack impersonating Bernard Manning. If you can get past that though, this is a thoroughly enjoyable romp, full of farcical situations

Brilliantly funny
This is a brilliant follow on from the first book in the series which I thoroughly enjoyed. This one picks up where that one left off, following the cantankerous, irreverant and often hilarious Ally as she tries to uncover the secret of the Mountain Men and why her name, along with the ditzy Gabby and their french colleague, appears on a letter from a now deceased prisoner.
Loads of laugh out loud moments, tons of sarcasm and many clever insights into everyday life, written in a way that can't fail to amuse. I look forward to the next book which is promised at the end of this one.
Aubrey Parsons narrates the book perfectly and does a superb job of the all the accents and different character voices.
I received a free copy of this audiobook from the narrator and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.

Historical, Fictional & Hilarious!
The End Of The World Is Nigh was a fantastic book. Well written, great story, interesting characters and crammed with laugh-out-loud moments. Obviously, I liked it, a lot, but Last Of The Mountain Men is even better! I wasn't expecting Tony Moyle to beat the previous book in the series but somehow that's exactly what he's done. We're back with the curmudgeonly Ally Oldfield, DOCTOR Ally Oldfield as she'll remind anyone silly enough to forget. Saving the world wasn't enough to earn Ally and co. a break from the crazy of the world as the stakes are once more raised to great heights and somehow she's mixed up in it all. How? She doesn't know but she'll do her very best to find out if she can firstly, keep herself out of prison and secondly, not murder all the infuriating people she's surrounded by. This is a first class book with that has that rare and wonderful mix of fiction, real history and so many laugh-out-loud moments you lose count. Do yourself a favour if you're new to this series and grab both books and sit back and enjoy because they're both fun, especially Last Of The Mountain Men.
Tony Moyle's story really puts narrator Aubrey Parsons' talent to the test with so many different accents but he's more than up to the challenge. As with the previous book in the series he delivers a first class performance that raises the already fantastic story to a different level. His delivery of the humourous parts is right 'on the money' too. I said The End Of The World Is Nigh was 'one of the best audio-books I’ve listened to' and this can easily be said for this book as well. First class all round.

Best book I have ever read.
This is one of those books you can listen to over and over again without getting bored. Laugh out loud moments intertwined with a gripping storyline and characters you will absolutely love. As with all TM books, Aubrey Parsons narration gives each character a personality of their own and brings the story to life. A fantastic book as a stand alone read / listen or as the second in the Ally Oldfield series following on from the cleverly written The End Of The World Is N1G13.

Great fun.
Great fun, a decent second book to The End of the World is N13H. The characters ar enow developing in a similsr manner to Pratchett's Sam Vimes, starts quite thin and unlikeable, but becomes the underdog you root for, then the hero you stand behind. A decent recording and a good one to listen to. I was sent a link to the audio version to review.
