Summary

"Take my hand, little one."

Fran finds her standing by the swings. A little girl, Esther, no older than seven years old, by herself in the dead of night, her pretty but old-fashioned yellow dress covered in grass stains and her hair dishevelled. She says she's waiting for Father, and that strikes Fran as particularly odd.

After Esther is reunited with her family, Fran can't stop thinking about this pious child whose imaginary friend is God. Fran's instincts tell her something is very wrong. Why does Esther keep running away from home, and how did she get that bruise on her leg?

Fran's husband warns her not to get too close, but one morning, Esther and her family disappear. Where did they go? Why did they leave their furniture behind?

Fran knows in her gut that something terrible is going to happen to that child, and she can't stand by while it happens. No matter the cost.

After all, she found her. But can she save her?

Wow!

At first I thought it was quite twee and gentle and not much to hold my interest but it soon picked up pace and I couldn't stop listening. Really enjoyed this book. The narration was excellent.

I found this book intriguing to start but overall it wasn't really worth a credit. Glad I got it as 2 for one offer.

Surprising

The start was quite slow but stick with it. The writer knows her craft well. You think you know what’s going on then everything changes.
The narrator was excellent in her delivery and she adds to the suspense.
The ending was totally unexpected but fail to explain some aspects of the of the story, for example that of the role of father Adam.

Gripping

I have never submitted a review here before, and I tend to stay away from fiction books but I just had to review this book. I was gripped! Really enjoyed this.. I hope there’s a sequel, a continuation of this?

Good

This was an interesting storyline but it was a bit long winded in places. The narrator was really good and pleasant to listen to. There were a few twists too that I enjoyed, some predictable and some not. This book didn't blow me away but overall it was good enough.

Fascinating and compelling.

I really enjoyed this book and the subject matter and the surprising twist toward the end. This is the first title I have read by this author and will be seeking another now.
I would recommend wholeheartedly x
