About this listen
Short, easily digestible guide for parents on how to reduce family conflict by dropping unnecessary demands from daily life to help neurodivergent families to thrive.
"Low-demand parenting requires radical acceptance. It says to the kid right in front of you, I see you, just as you are. - You are ok here. I love you right here."
Parent to neurodivergent children and autistic adult Amanda Diekman outlines a parenting approach that finally lowers the bar for the whole family, enabling the equilibrium of the home to be restored.
Low-demand parenting allows you to drop the demands and expectations that are making family life impossible and embrace the joyful freedom of living life with low demands. It can be a particularly effective approach for children with high anxiety levels including neurodivergent children. Amanda talks from experience and teaches you how to identify what the big, tiny and invisible demands are for your own child and gives you the step-by-step instructions on how to drop them.
Full of practical resources and scripts that are easy to implement in busy everyday life, this book is your flashlight and your map to parenting your uniquely wired child. It will not tell you where to go, but it will help you find your way so you and your family thrive.

Invaluable info and help for parents of ND kids
So glad Amanda has written this book! We had already realised that our PDA-autistic son needed a totally different kind of parenting. This book clearly sets out the 'Why' and 'What' and 'How' of Low Demand Parenting, with lived examples from Amanda's own family. It's not just about parenting either; it's about the whole family, about recovery, about trust, connection, and making sure everyone's needs are met, parents included. Thank you Amanda!

Acceptance and hope
Opened my eyes about how I and others are trying to change my children and that by accepting of who they are takes away so much of the burden

So affirming
I felt like I’ve read this book just at the right moment. We suspect my 4YO has PDA. We’ve every parenting book about behaviour management known to man, and they’ve all made her life (and our lives) worse. I’m excited to go on this journey with her and my family into low demand. And guess what! I think I am probably PDA too! Thanks to Amanda for this wonderful book.

A life-changing mind shift
This book was my guide during my child’s autistic burnout, but it’s a book that EVERY parent should read. Filled with so many good nuggets, I’m going to get the hard copy too so that I can go back and highlight parts for myself.
My husband and I listened to it together. It opened up a whole new way of parenting for us. It felt like an enormous obstacle in chapter 1 but made sense and became manageable by chapter 12. I’m not usually one for self-help books but this one is life-changing.
