Summary

One twin ran. The other vanished. Neither escaped....

Don't trust anyone.

Cat’s twin sister, El, has disappeared. But there’s one thing Cat is sure of: her sister isn’t dead. She would have felt it. She would have known.

Don't trust your memories.

To find her sister, Cat must return to their dark, crumbling childhood home and confront the horrors that wait there. Because it’s all coming back to Cat now: all the things she has buried, all the secrets she’s been running from.

Don't trust this story....

The closer Cat comes to the truth, the closer to danger she is. Some things are better left in the past....

Really enjoyed listening to Mirrorland

A story that you don’t want to stop. Very well written and I personally loved the references to Edinburgh. I think it would make a great film.

Good story but didn't enjoy the ending.

Good story. Good narrator. Felt the ending went on far too long and too contrived. Wished I had not read the last few chapters as they spoiled the rest.

A dark masterpiece.

This is absolutely stunning, I think this is possibly the most moving book I've ever read/listened to.

Not my usual listen but I would certainly try more of Ms Johnstone's books after this one, however I think this will be a hard act to follow. It's a masterpiece of darkness.

For lovers of pschological thrillers, there is a lot to get you hooked here, for lovers of mystery too, and for lovers of gothic romance, you'll be satisfied I think. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to pretty much anyone who enjoys reading.

Dark and twisty .... fantasy or faction?

What in your childhood is real and what did we make up? Johnston captivates her readers with a dark twisty tale of the fine line between truth and lies.... it really was a trip down memory lane, the power of imagination and the stories we tell ourselves to keep us safe.

It was wonderful to be able to suspend reality, to loose myself in the dark creepy house in Edinburgh with its stories and safe hiding places.

Katie Leung’s narration conveyed the atmosphere and suspense with ease.

This is certainly a book that I will think about for some time to come

Haunting read with many twists and turns!

I really enjoyed the narrators performance. It had a truly Haunting feel!
I found that at so many points I was questioning myself with where I thought the plot would go and boy I had no idea what was to come.
Without giving too much away, there were lots of plot twists. Just when you think you know the full story...bamn another twist hits you and leaves your jaw on the floor.
At the same time, it's easy to follow but just be prepared for Mirrorland to leave you to wonder what will happen next.

I can highly recommend Mirrorland. I'm especially pleased I consumed this book via audio. I think the narrator was absolutely perfect and added to the story.

So glad I kept listening

Slow to start, but I’m so glad I stayed with it. A sad, wonderful, cleverly told story with a satisfying ending.
And the narrator was great at voicing most of the characters with various accents.

Haunting story, beautifully read.

LOVED

🎧Katie Leung dreamy tone is ideal in this context, sounding both ominous and wistful. Together with the soft edges of her Scottish accent, she’s basically hypnotic. Fab.
💛Between the twin girls connection, the fantasy world and the missing sister storyline, this was creepy, creepy, creepy. Then terrifying. Job done.
❤️️I loved the premise of the book.

COULD HAVE LOVED MORE

This is almost two books in one and the fantasy elements weren’t quite as much of a thread running through as I would have liked.

SHALL I COMPARE THEE TO...

Huh, That’s a tough one. This is truly quite original. There are elements of K L Slater’s The Silent Ones, but am I just saying that because of the twin thing?
