About this listen

Elaine's mission through the fairy ring went horribly wrong, and she finds herself in Pallos once again—over 20,000 years in the future.

All she has are her friends, her magic, and the clothes on her back. Fighting their way out of the wilderness, they quickly meet Iona, a wandering paladin of the Valkyrie order.

She's heading to the School of Sorcery and Spellcraft, and Elaine joins her: To learn wizardry. To figure out her place in the world and where she wants to go next. To get her third class. To kiss cute women. To eat some tasty mangos. To read books, at long last.

World building book and setup for coming books.

Some spoilers to the overall themes of the book ahead

I wasn't a fan of the last books ending, I would say the nomurous buildups of expectations for the series first 7 books was snuffed a bit by the abrupt twist that was book 7s ending. And the way it happend was not really climatic enough to justify it. (the fairy ring story line). It felt like the author got annoyed at the story and wanted a reset of sorts.

This book did mend some of the ugly edges of the last ending, there are themes that get explored which is interesting enough to re-imerge into the story and tie it together with the previous books, ionas side story also makes more sense now. And over all the book is good, only major pointer I have to take away is the lack of goal set throughout the book. There where alot of world building, which I love, but no conflict or strife really, it felt like a pause in between arcs.

In short the book is a smooth listen compared to earlier books in the series. Don't expect action. And I look forward to the next book and hope the storylines will ramp up.
