Summary

The sensational new psychological thriller from the internationally best-selling author of The Girl Before.

Pete Riley is a stay-at-home dad; his partner, Maddie, works in advertising. After Pete drops two-year-old Theo off at nursery one morning, he's politely accosted by a man who looks just like Theo.

The man, Miles Lambert, breaks the devastating news that Theo is in fact not Pete's son, but his - the two babies got mixed up at hospital and Miles and his wife, Lucy, now have the Rileys' son at home. They've already carried out DNA testing to prove it.

The two couples agree that, rather than swap the children back, they'll try to involve each other in the children's lives. But a plan to sue the hospital triggers an official investigation that unearths some disturbing questions about just how the babies got mixed up.

And when Theo is thrown out of nursery for hitting other children, Pete and Maddie have to ask themselves: how far do they want this arrangement to go? What are the secrets hidden behind the Lamberts' smart front door? And how much can they trust the real parents of their child - or even each other?

An addictive psychological thriller, perfect for fans of The Silent Patient and Shari Lapena's The Couple Next Door.

Meh

This was okay. Mildly entertaining. I enjoyed that there were multiple narrator's. The story was slightly far fetched. It was an easy listen.

Excellent from the start to finish

An un put downable book. took me a few chapters to get into it but then just couldn't stop listening. The idea for this story was well researched and credible.
I liked all the characters except of course the villain!

Something different

I’m a huge fan of psychological thriller books/ebooks and this was the best I’ve listened to in years! The story was completely different to anything I’d read/listened to before.

Only dropped a star on performance because as a Welsh person the Welsh accent in the book make me cringe every time I heard it! It was not good. But it was only a tiny part and the overall book was still great enough for me to forgive it.

Not a relaxing read!

This book is so tense! This left me feeling the way I feel on waking after a nightmare. The impossibility of the situation dealt with by the characters meant that for a while I had to force myself to read it (well, listen to it)...and then I just couldn’t put it down.
A very compelling and uncomfortable read - that I will be recommending to everyone! Great book!

Totally enjoyed this

At every twist and turn you are just flabbergasted at how things get out of control for the two protagonists. The story is told very well and each step is measured but exciting. A great read.

Good choice!

I bought this as a daily special and was surprised by how very good it is. An excellent plot, built up skilfully and well narrated. I will try other books by this author.
