Rose Justice is a young pilot with the Air Transport Auxiliary during the Second World War. captivating and so so important
this book is like getting two or even three stories at once.
we get to hear what happened to Maddie after "Codename Verity", we read about the exciting life of Rose Justice transport pilot, and then..... then another story begins.
it manages to distill the horrors of a hazy camp without the gory/sensational details.
through the story and through Rose's eyes and memories you experience it all without realizing that this is those horrible things history told us.
it was very difficult for me, and yet I couldn't stop listening.

A slow burner which really takes off
I absolutely loved "Codename Verity" so I was a little apprehensive as to whether this novel could live up to it and, in the beginning, I did think it was very slow moving. Stick with it. The second part is equally as compelling as Verity (if not more) and the graphic descriptions of the conditions at Ravensbruck utterly heartrbreaking. I do like the clever way that Wein helps us understand the villains as well as the heroines and I do love a book full of very brave girls. I absolutely loved it!

Excellent book!
I loved this book. It gave a real insight into life in Ravensbrück and the strength of the women who were there. The narrator was fantastic. Highly recommended!

Excellent narration
Would you consider the audio edition of Rose Under Fire to be better than the print version?
The performance by Sasha Pick was exceptionally good.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Rose Under Fire?
The narration of the polish characters in the concentration camp were particularly memorable.
Have you listened to any of Sasha Pick’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I haven't listend to Sasha;s work before, but would definitely look for her readings again. I had really hoped she would win the Audie award that this book was nominated for.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The book is an emotional rollercoaster, and an interesting insight onto the holocaust from a first person perspective.

Interesting Story
While the narrator read the story very well, the accent she used for one character was quite hard to understand. The story was interesting but I’d rather not know the ending until the end. It’s hard to be as invested in a story when you know roughly how it ends fairly near the beginning. If the story had been told sequentially I’d have been riveted.
