Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Stolen by Lesley Pearse, read by Lucy Brownhill.

Sussex, 2003. When a beautiful blonde girl is found half-drowned on a beach, she has no memory of who she is or what horrors have left her there. But an article about her in a Brighton newspaper rings alarm bells for beautician Dale, who shows the police photographs of Lotte Wainright.

The girls met working on a cruise ship, and their friendship blossomed as they sailed the seas of South America, until Lotte fell under the sinister influence of an older American couple. To her regret, Dale hasn't seen Lotte since leaving the ship months earlier...but the girl on the beach - although badly bruised - is indeed her much missed friend.

Their reunion only marks the beginning of a dangerous tidal wave of secrets, lies and nightmares. Where has Lotte been? Who is the man who seems to want to kill her? And what has become of the baby she's recently given birth to? Dale and Lotte must dig deep and find the strength to hold on against the odds if they are to rebuild their friendship and survive Lotte's stolen - and deadly - past.

an intriguing and gripping tail.

I enjoyed this. I listened to the audio version over the course of 3 days whilst making dinner or doing chores.. had me intrigued from start to near the end.. predictable ending but I liked the characters so didn't mind the 'everything comes good' ending.

Dissapointing

I have been a fan of Lesley Pierce for many years I did not feel this book was up to her usual standard. The story was very far fetched and quite predictable. Would not recommend ‘stolen’.

Good story

A good story with some excellent parts but was a bit too sentimental and predictable at times.

Sorry Lesley, I’m used to giving you 5 stars...

I love many different genres when it comes to books, thrillers and sweeping sagas amongst them. I’ve enjoyed several of Lesley Pearse’s historical epics and was intrigued to try this more modern day drama. Unfortunately for me it didn’t hit the mark at all, the story was just too implausable, the characters unrealistic and frustrating, and for a thriller with dark undertones, it somehow totally lacked tension. I was half expecting some sort of twist to catch me out, but no. I can’t actually believe this was written by such a talented author. The book is several years old now so I may give it the benefit of the doubt and try one of her more recent ones to see if she was yet to hit her stride in this genre, sadly I feel she missed it by a country mile with this book. Excellent narration though.
