About this listen

Through an intriguing story of parents struggling with their troubled children and with their own personal problems, The Anatomy of Peace shows how to get past the preconceived ideas and self-justifying reactions that keep us from seeing the world clearly and dealing with it effectively.

Yusuf al-Falah, an Arab, and Avi Rozen, a Jew, each lost his father at the hands of the other's ethnic cousins. As the story unfolds, we discover how they came together, how they help warring parents and children to come together, and how we too can find our way out of the struggles that weigh us down.

The choice between peace and war lies within us. As one of the characters says, "A solution to the inner war solves the outer war as well." This book offers more than hope - it shows how we can prevent the conflicts that cause so much pain in our lives and in the world.

Offers to go further than Leadership & Self-Deception, but….

….in the end just makes the simple concepts presented in the first book tougher to accept. For me this book raised more questions than it answered. In particular, about “action” being the key to getting out of the box. It suggests we should act upon every “desire” but even if these are legitimate “desires” (and I’m not certain this is true), to behave this way would be paralysing.

The third book (The Outward Mindset) is a return to pragmatism and is a more practical reflection of the principles established in Leadership & Self-deception.

I’m not saying this is a bad book, just the weakest of the three in my uneducated opinion.

A great addition or standalone book about personal peace

I liked the premise and the way the stories explained big concepts in a way that normal people can grasp.
It is a great book about how we approach situations, either at war or at peace with the situations we all face will determine the way our efforts are received.
There was enough humour to keep it light enough to laugh when I spotted behaviours I recognised in myself.
As with all great growth books it needs to be read for your own sake, not someone else’s.
Lots of gold in this book.

So timely

I picked this ad hoc but currently we are in the Hamas/Israel conflict which you will quickly understand why it was so apt. An excellent way to open people’s mind and get across the concept. Forget world peace and think more about your peace!!

Interesting content but felt the story format was a bit patronising

This book was recommended to me and whilst the message and process has merit and is useful the fact that it needed a story (I still have no idea if it is factual or fictional) which at times was a bit cringeworthy was a bit patronising. Also, the narrators vocal talents and characterisation showed promise, at times it was a bit scary...

Upshot is don't be put off by the format or strange voices, persevere because there is some important stuff in here.

great follow-up which deepens understanding

What did you like most about The Anatomy of Peace?

The book built on the principles taught in Leadership and Self-deception and deepened the understanding whilst at the same time broadening the subject matter to cover non-work matters.

What did you like best about this story?

It was a genuine story which you could believe.

What aspect of Oliver Wyman’s performance might you have changed?

I thought the different voices were great and added something to the book.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It really made me think.

Any additional comments?

It would be really useful in this and a number of other books to have some diagrams which could shown in the app as well when they are being described in the audio.

High Impact

Since I got to know these books (Anatomy of Peace & Leadership and Self-Deception, I’ve shared these books many times. Giving them to friends who have influences and impact within the community.
I worked as an Area Manager for a chain of pharmacy. I introduce the book to the management and got an approvals for all our pharmacist to read as part of their induction process.
I recently gave it to my 17 yrs old son. In his words, “you don’t know how much impact this book has had in me. It helped me deal with my teachers, fellow students and friends in a much better way.”
I always come back to these books 2 to 3 times a year listening to the audiobook completely. It’s impacted me and people around me tremendously.
I can add corroborating ahadith almost on all the pages.

Interesantes perspectivas

Interesting but harder work than Leadership and Self Deception

I enjoyed getting to know the old Lou. It makes me feel better about the start of my journey. Overall it wasn’t as enjoyable or concise as L&SD but I’m glad I listened to it.
