Summary

As usual, Montana Coggeshall is hell-bent on doing what's right, even if what's right isn't exactly what's wise. So he embarks on a quest to vanquish the corrupted ursus, a threat so large they could destroy the entire world of iNcarn8.

Does Montana head out after months of training for cold weather conditions, amassing an army, and strategizing with his top aides? Not really. It's more like he just walks out of his holding one day with a guide and the members of his hirð. They're just a bunch of angry teddy bears, right?

Montana is acting on pure instinct, tinged with a healthy dose of rage. He's stripped bare, and soon finds himself without food, supplies, a key magic weapon, or even his most loyal friends. Still, he continues.

Montana Coggeshall is on the hunt.

another fantastic read/listen

I love this series! I first started it on a chance listen as I was boarding a plane for me annual holiday, I ended up blasting through the first 4 books within 2 weeks... this series just keeps getting better keep them coming :)

I'd also recommend checking out the bad guys series by the same author set in the same universe and timeline

Great series, slightly disappointing entry

I am a huge fan of the series so far. That being said, this feels like the weakest book so far. Compaired to the other entry’s in the series this feels like it has the most filler.

The RPG elements seem to get lighter and lighter. And when they do turn up, the maths is somewhat inconsistent. Looking back, it really feels like the MC hasn’t progressed much in levels or skills. He continues to collect interesting abilities which sound really useful but get used once or twice then are forgotten about.

Overall I would still recommend this book. The world seems fleshed out and I hardly stopped listening so despite it feeling like a lot of side quests I was still absorbed. I’m just hoping that the next book addresses some of the issues.
