Summary
From acclaimed author Dr. Jason Fung, a revolutionary guide to reversing diabetes.
Dr. Jason Fung forever changed the way we think about obesity with his best-selling book, The Obesity Code. Now he has set out to do the same for type 2 diabetes.
Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease - a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease. The only way to treat type 2 diabetes effectively, he argues, is proper dieting and intermittent fasting - not medication.

disappointing
Lots of background and good scientific reasoning, but critically lacking in the HOW to practically follow an intermittent fasting plan and examples. Apparently you can pay $39/month to find out on his website....

A Book That Could Change Everything Diabetic
Wow! This book really moved me as a Type 1 diabetic, now with multiple health issues, after almost two decades of dealing with the blow of a full-on diabetic lifestyle.
Despite trying to follow all the advice given to me by health professionals, trying to eat well, exercising regularly, etc. I have disappointingly begun to witness my body begin to develop the complications of this condition. Now I'm being pushed this drug & that, to my horror and am eagerly seeking alternative answers.
The scientific evidence in this book is strong, to the point that I believe everyone (diabetic or not) could benefit from listening to it.
My only criticism is that this book seems to be very heavily orientated towards Type 2. I feel more mention of how the subject matter is relevant to Type 1 diabetes too would vastly improve the book. Some Type 1 listeners may be inclined to switch off after a while, feeling its not for them, but I'd say stick with it. Despite being Type 1 myself, I learned a great deal and only wish my health professionals had advised me in this manner years ago.
Congratulations Dr. Fung for your clear narrative, impressive research & dedication in this field. You give a huge number of people a sense of hope in the battle against a condition that is often portrayed as a chronic & debilitating disease. I feel much more able to take the fight to my diabetes and I hope you continue to write & lecture on the subject.

Potentially life changing.
Dr. Fung has admirably learned from his own (indeed, virtually the entire medical professions') long established "mistakes" and very probably - through logical progression - developed a cure. Major congratulations are due!

Exceptional food for thought.
Primarily this is for diabetic patients, which I am not but there are so many messages in here that need to be taken on board by the the population at large.
Unfortnately a lot of people just do not want to heed this advice and we are sold more and more sugary products by the food giant. These big companies sponsor (with irresistibly large amounts of money) the medical research foundations to promote their products, with the findings being twisted to suit their needs. Take the breakfast cereal debarcle.
One thing that frightened me in the book was that it takes just a week of overdoing the glucose and fructose and you become insulin resisitant. Now I appreciate this is revesible but take the festive season gluttony fest and think 'how many people are at risk during this time.
I personally think the only way to get the message out there is You tube, blogs etc etc..... as all other ways have failed and we are living in a society that is moving towards if not already in a pre diabetic, obese state.
I personally hope that we will look upon sugar like alcohol and smoking in a few years tim, and then something will hopefully change, however it may be too late for many as this needs to be instilled into the minds of the young to let them grow into adults who have a health span as long as thier life span.
Rant over, enjoy the book.

Annoyingly repetitive despite some good advice
I have never written an Audible review before but this book has driven me to do it. Basically, it's an hour worth of book (at the max) stretched to 7 hours 24 minutes. Initially, I found the history, the science and statistics related to diabetes quite interesting but then as I progressed through the book, the repetitions got more and more annoying. I've lost count of the number of times he tells you that diabetes is reversible. There is some good advice in there but it is buried under a lot of waffle.
