Summary

Keep your family safe.

Whatever the cost....

Jamie and Victoria are expecting their first baby.

With a few weeks to go, they head off for a final weekend break in a remote part of the North Pennines. The small and peaceful guesthouse is the ideal location to unwind together before becoming parents. Upon arrival, they are greeted by Barry and Fiona, the older couple who run the guesthouse. They cook them dinner and show them to their room before retreating to bed themselves.

The next morning, Jamie and Victoria wake to find the house deserted. Barry and Fiona are nowhere to be seen. All the doors are locked. Both their mobile phones and car keys have disappeared. Even though it's a few weeks early, Victoria knows the contractions are starting.

The baby is coming, and there's no way out.

Great performances

I had to overcome my skepticism about a plot element which I found difficult to believe but nevertheless an interesting story. Well performed.

A good listen

I really enjoyed the book and the narrator’s are excellent. The story is good but in parts a little far-fetched. However, overall it is interesting and holds the attention. I will be listening to other novels by this author.

Chilling Page Turner

This was a brilliant listen which I devoured super quickly. The storyline was amazingly creepy and as a parent I found it particularly affected me, I was so desperate to know how it would unfold. The characters were really well drawn, and it was amazing to see (hear) a lead character with Cerebral Palsy (and fantastic to also have representational casting with Zak Forde Williams who also has CB and gave a brilliant reading as Jamie). Must also call out the always excellent Joanne Froggatt, and Julie Hesmondhalgh's section is exceptional. Definitely listen to this one!!!!

Wow very enjoyable in a strange way

A very unexpected ending . Twists and turns make this a highly recommended Audible book. Must look at other Robin Morgan-Bentley books.
Excellent narration.

Most will like it, just not for me

I’m sure most people who read this book will love it but it just wasn’t for me.
The storyline was ok and I didn’t actually predict the twist but that may also be because I was only half listening to it.
The guy (can’t even remember his name) was such a pathetic character in my eyes, his disability was frequently mentioned which got very boring. Though I do understand the author maybe raising awareness or how we speak and react to people with disabilities that aren’t obvious.
I’m rambling now almost as much as the author did!
Loved the fact Corrie’s ‘Haley’ was narrating too 😆

Odd

It wasn’t awful. It was odd and sinister but in the wrong places. I can’t describe them without spoilers. As I’m thinking, that’s a bit convenient or that’s a bit strange, the characters weren’t. Pretty soon you realise what’s going on.
