Welcome my friends!
Welcome...to “The Land"!
The battle of the dead was won, but at a great cost. Sion, leader of the Mist Village, was left with only pain and regret as Richter was claimed by the abyss.
What no one but the abandoned chaos seed knows is that he narrowly avoided the curse of the lich Singh, a curse that still hangs above his head. Now, surrounded by miles of darkness and tons of crushing rock, Richter has to find his way back into the light.
The only problem is that this monster of a man is being pursued by monsters, a demon, and his own foolish choices. Faced with all the dangers of the deep dark, what will Richter say when the buried horrors of The Land come a calling and asked if he's paid his dues?
Well he'll look right back, stare that horror in the eye, and say, "Yes sir, the check is in the mail!"
Welcome back my friends! Welcome back...to The Land!

Mostly filled with waffle
There’s actually very little story progression, and mostly going through stat prompts with little actual plot. Not to mention the whole chapter about the character’s upset bowl movements.

Amazing
This series of books has EVERYTHING. Humour, danger, magic, monsters and twists. I just hope the next one is out soon! I don't think I've laughed so hard when listening to, or reading a book. I really do love it.

Fantastic!!!!! great book great narrator
Nick is probably the best narrator ive heard and combined with the land series being my favorite series on audible this makes for somthing truley special.
on this book more specifically (without spoilers) its a new setting for richter on and its really cool seeing him cope. there are alot of notifications but after the last books ending they are needed and oh so good ! the develoments in this book are awsome plenty to enjoy one flaw if i had to pick one would simply be it leaves you wanting more and we can only wait !

Too much
I like Aleron Kong's writing style, grown up, funny and full of pop culture references. Thankfully Nick Podehl is one of the best narrators out there, as for me this was too little story and too much rpg. nothing really happens, it felt to me like the first two thirds of the book were spent looking at the character sheet and checking the rule book, rather than playing the game. great series so far but this one was a let down. hoping it picks up for the next book.

Disappointed.
A definite drop in quality this book. Seems to be a bit of filler book, lots of stat ready and little story progression.

Great narration can’t forgive numerous flaws
I’ve been following the series since the start and whilst the writing has never been stellar it’s been good enough and kept my interest so I’ve been able to stick with it.
The high quality of the narration forgives a lot but In this latest book the author seems to have switched his target audience from young adult to prepubescent male teens, such are the numerous classless and puerile remarks.
Additionally, the book is about 70% prompts and notifications and the protagonist doesn’t make it out of the starting location so there’s no conclusion (or intro for that matter).
So even though this had decent fight scenes and carries some promise for the future books I struggled though this one.
It was more novella than novel due to its failure to move the story forward and its repetitive reliance on quoting stats and prompts.
Even if this isn’t reined in going forwards it really needs to focus on a broader audience. (As in not exclusively 10-14 year olds whom some of the puerile commentary might have impressed).

Good start to a book needing another 15 hours
Like a lot of other people I couldn’t wait to find out the fate of richter after his battle against the Lytch! Well when the last book was over 40 hours and this was only 16 or so you know deep down It won’t be as in depth.
It was a good book, follows on nicely and gets some interesting plot lines going for the main character but the story doesn’t advance much and it’s 99.9% based on dialogue from the main char only and his ego can sometimes be annoying and there is quite a bit of narrative repetition.
Needless to say I can’t wait for the next book to follow on and this won’t put me off Aleron in the slightest. You do get a prologue to a new series he’s writing at the end which I hope means we won’t have to wait years till his next book for the land.
Nick Pohdel smashes it again, his ability to maintain character and convey feeling and emotion is astounding.
Thanks Aleron
