Summary

Some people just look destined for great things. And sometimes, life has other ideas.

Ever since The Incident, James DeWitt has stayed on the safe side. He likes to know what happens next.

Danny Allen is not on the safe side. He is more past the point of no return. But it's funny the way life is sometimes. Just when you think you know how everything is, it surprises you.

And redemption can come in the most unlikely forms....

Warm, witty and wise, Mike Gayle's new novel is a powerful story of male friendship and what we mean by success, reminding us of the simple courage at the heart of every human life.

Brilliant!

This is one of the best novels I have read in years!

The story evolves around two main characters who cannot be more different from one another but in a way also share similarities. This book tells stories happening around ordinary families, their day to day life, their ups and downs -- sounds mundane but yet keeps you on your toes the whole time!

Apart from superb story telling, I somehow also find the book quite enlightening -- niceness and compassion can go a long way!

Very touching and very funny

Loved it. Another good read by Mike Gayle, having worked with and know people affected by ABI you’ve done a very good job well done and the narrators were fantastic too well done to you both. Def recommend.

Chick lit for guys

This story was reminiscent of Jojo Moyes' Me Before You... A story of one young person hired as a carer for another young person with severe disability following an accident. This was blokey though... No romance between them. It was a sweet story and I can't really fault it, apart from saying it was not high literature and I was left feeling as if I'd eaten a tad too much cake.

Danny and James roadtrip.

Nice story of two men who stumble into each other’s lives having their school years as their only connection.

The story is a little predictable with the happy ending but great subject matter covered sensitivily.

Great narration although the brummy accent is not one of my favourites.

Would recommend as a palate cleanser after any epic or heavy books

Brilliant from start to end

Loved this book. How the main characters came together and overcame their respective challenges was a great read. Well narrated book. Highly recommended.

Dull and predictable

Probably ok if you’re a teenager and like a basic and predictable story where everything works out perfectly in the end. Shallow as a puddle.

Good read

Took me a little time to get into the book but when I did I thoroughly enjoyed the story and enjoyed listening to the narrator's. Didn't want to stop listening.
