Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Not that he has a choice when it turns out he is a mage, albeit one that hasn’t cast any spells in all his life. There are requirements, duties, and education that the powers that be insist he be subject to. To hell with that.

Good, but tedious regarding the middle part
The first 3-4 hours and the last hours (after the guardian fights) were absolutely great!
The intermissions were really enjoyable as well.
But I can not help but feel like the middle of the book, fighting with the guardians to get to the king of the forest, was hard to get through. Felt like a chore for some reason. Somehow the writing style was just a bit different.
I have to say that the fights weren't that engaging, but the story progression is what kept me hooked. I suppose that the anticipation of the fight with the king made the precious fights feel like fillers.
Travis Baldree was stellar as always!

A decent litrpg
If your into the genre then I'd recommend this story but there are definitely some gripes I have with it, for example the first book ended somewhat abruptly and then so did this one.
I am aware that this is because of the fact that it was originally written and posted online and therefore does not follow the structure of a more traditional book but in my mind this is no excuse as there was several chapters in this book that felt like a more natural ending to book one around the middle so so my brain go's naturally to why this was the case and my answer is simple "marketing" the author or publisher want the story in ten hour chunks because it looks good rather than being to long or sort and if they can split the story into 20 different books then mo money.
The other criticisms I have are more minor for example the character pov jumps somewhat randomly in the middle of a chapter and on top of that there is like 6 chapters in a row which added new characters to the story, I really disliked this it felt really odd and could certainly have been done better,
I do genuinely like the overall plot and themes of the story the way Gods are portrayed and influence things is interesting the somewhat corny references are enjoyable and the mc doesn't break down and cry every other chapter and gets on with things and while this doesn't really add much to character building it does appeal to my male power fantasy wish fulfilment rather than leaving me shaking my head over how much people cry about how unfair the world is when that is as profound as saying water is wet.
Travis Baldree as always was a joy to listen to

Stick with Jake
I'm mostly enjoying this series so far, but theres so much side bar bs. like just stay on the mc, so many intermissions and chapters that just cut away to some rando or side character so we can see all the bullshit going on that has nothing to do with the main story. you get in groove start vibing and then boom now we are on a whole new character. It adds nothing, it seriously subtracts from my overall enjoyment, so much fast forwarding and skipping just to get back to the story that I bought this book to read. I really wish authors would stop doing this.

Stop the side stories
I hate side stories. I don't care about Jacob and his body Guard. I don't care about Casper the not so friendly ghost. I don't care about anyone but Jake and the viper. I've skipped all of the other characters chapters as I don't care. instead of giving us random chapters, take them out and make side quest books. only provide enough context in the Main book for your story to continue, I love long run times, but not at losing the Mc to side characters

Side stories...
are almost certainly adding to the story. if I'm not mistaken, we have already had allusions to one "intermission" character. besides, we can see what other dedicated characters have achieved compared to our MC. Jake is an anomaly. I love this series

Overpowered
If you like books where the main character is given the exact things or abilities to accomplish a task this is for you. No excitement/ thrill, as soon as the main character is given something overpowered you know he is going to come across an issue that only those items or abilities can accomplish. It happens so much in the books. The main character is overpowered which makes the story loose any excitement.

I am in deep, but thats a good thing
Honestly, it's one of the few litrpg series that grabs my attention and keeps it all the way through. Though I am relatively new to this sub genre, this is likely to be my favorite for a long time. The characters are well written and feel real, the foreign concepts and mechanics of the world are explained well enough to understand what is needed but not over explained, and though I could think of a few narrators that I would prefer, Travis did an exceptional job. (my favorite part of the performance is the uncanny, robotic sound of the being from the system)
and to those of you who are complaining about the authors use of "side stories." I've read a few of these comments. Yall do realize that each o]f those side chapters are connected right? It's foreshadowing and world building. Zogarth is setting up future events. If you stick to one character for the entire time, you get a limited understanding of all of the other main characters, as well as a bias towards Jake. You don't want a well structured story with complex characters and a new world to learn about and understand, you want a power fantasy. Go read sword art online or something.

Its not bad. Though, I didn't love it.
I didn't love the time the author spent on unknown character which had zero impact on the story. there's several chapters introducing people that don't show up again. I'm sure they'll matter in the next book, but they're just filler content here. The rest wasn't bad. Performance is great.
