Story
After defending his fledgling realm against the undead lord Gaja Katar all winter long, Count Minalan of the Magelaw faces a new threat in the spring: the Nemovort Shakathet, favored of Korbal, leading the mighty hordes out of the Penumbra. This time, Minalan faces a real strategist; one who drives his armies with purpose and efficiency. The road to war leads through Megelin Castle and the vulnerable lands to the south of Vanado. Old enemies will become allies, and old friends will become valuable assets.

Story
From the moment Dara of Westwood spied the Silver Headed Raptor nesting in Rundeval Peak, the precocious redheaded 12-year-old girl was enchanted. The youngest daughter of the Master of the Wood lived in ramshackle Westwood Hall, in the independently minded Westwood estate of Sevendor. Her determination to capture a baby falcon and train it wasn’t hampered by the fact that Dara had never climbed a mountain, had never been trained in falconry, or even remotely had permission from her father to do it.

Story
The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Conrad lives a quiet rural life with his parents in the Northlands. During one fated night, his world is turned on its head, as nightmares become reality. While his Northlands blood cries out for revenge, Conrad’s head tells him surviving is the best he can do. Rescued by a motley band of mercenaries, Conrad embarks on a life he could barely have imagined. As new challenges, friends, and enemies present themselves, Conrad knows that one day he will have to face the evil that so altered his life, and when that day comes, he must be ready.

Story
Long ago, the world fell into twilight, when the great empires of old consumed each other in sorcerous cataclysms. In the south, the Star Towers fell, swallowed by the sea, while the black glaciers descended upon the northern holdfasts, entombing the cities of Min-Ceruth in ice and sorcery. Then from the ancient empire of Menekar, the paladins of Ama came, putting every surviving sorcerer to the sword and cleansing their taint from the land. The pulse of magic slowed, fading like the heartbeat of a dying man. But after a thousand years, it has begun to quicken again.

Despite his lowly status, Cally's chosen by the Master of the Order to join a delegation to see their allies the Lannovians. The meeting will be historic: 60 years ago, the Order's enemies attacked them with a host of demons, forcing the Order to trap the monsters inside their own citadel and seal it shut with impenetrable wards. An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Story
In the realm of Isodoro, just two things stand between Alliance lands and the spears and muskets of the orcish hordes: the wizards of the Order and constant infighting amongst the orcs themselves. In the Alliance capital, young Wit has just been promoted from apprentice to full wizard - and saddled with the very unglamorous task of traveling to a distant iron mine to inspect it for fraud. Worse yet, he's partnered with Wa'llach, a drunken dwarven prisoner who's killed more people than most plagues. Yet those skills are about to become very handy.

loved it
A great addition to the spellmonger series with some interesting insights into some episodes that are referenced in the books but which Mancour builds upon and finesses in this book. I'm totally committed to the story and just love the direction that some of the mythology is taking. John Lee's performance is amazing, with his accents and vocal characterisation bring all these characters to life. I can't wait for the next book and want to thank Mr Mancour for keeping me enthralled and delightfully distracted from all the rubbish and darkness that is going on at the moment.

As epic as the writers name
So there is no doubt that if you love the series then you will love this book.
While it may not be a main line book I can happily say that the quality and story's told far outshine some of the previous books.
Why is this book so much better then some of the others?
Well let's start of with the fact that each of the short stories are well written, fun and help to build the world that has been created.
In my opinion there 2 types of people that read these kind of books . first, those that love a self contained story that is about a few characters but don't want to see the world of the book. The second is people like myself, those that love to see a world grow and to know how that world works.
This book is for those that want to see more of the story's world. I hope Terry writes more like this one because they always make me extremely happy. Maybe we could even see a short story set before the main books about the new horizon.
To Terry, as always you did awesome. Don't let peoples nasty comments about the book get you down. You did an awesome job on this one.

Another place holder
This book feels like an author going back in time to wrangle another book from already dead story material.
His last 2 books have done nothing to further the storyline.
It is almost as if the publisher had said “I need another book from you” and the author has panicked and thrown together some c grade material just to meet a deadline.
I don’t mind authors going back in time to fill in back-story as long as it helps the narrative or fills in some blanks but this doesn’t do that. They are just poorly written and pointless side stories.

Either you've stumbled on this book and don't know the Series, or you've listened to every book in the series and just need a bump to get you to the Arcanist release.
If the former, listen to the core series first, the stories here may spoil things but definitely add context in hindsight.
If the latter, just give them your credit already, why are you even reading this.

Mancour & Lee Never Disappoint!
I appreciate getting the back story, connecting dots between storylines and characters getting fleshed out, so I throughly enjoyed this anthology. While an author has much more leeway than a movie script writer, an author still can’t include every scene and sidelight that occurs during the writing process. Some of those are the beginnings of new books, but some “end up on the cutting room floor”. I enjoyed it Terry Mancour, and thank you John Lee for adding that additional zing of magic only an accomplished narrator can give to a well developed fantasy world.

Leaves one hungry for more
This definitely fills in the gaps between Warmage and Magelord, and the missing parts from Magelord. My favorites were The Spellmongers Wedding, Victory Soup, and The Road to Sevendor, though The Ugliest Maid in Castal had me laughing at my desk at work. The sardonic wit, clevar conversation, and detailed plot not only reveals more of the Spellmonger world, but reintroduces us to the beloved characters. And the cliffhanger at the end makes me more hungry than ever for Arcanist. October 1st can't come any sooner!

Random crap lying around compiled into a book!
This book reminds me of a band that has a successful album and then later releases the tracks that didn't make the album. For superfans this is awesome, but everyone else is like I see why they didn't make the original album. I actually thought the stories themselves were pretty good, but they are so far out of context that I couldn't really get into it. These would have been a great prolog at the end of a book or as an interlude during a book, but just mashing them together in their own book is pretty unenjoyable. It just made me wish I had bought book 12 and continued the main story. If you are a superfan definitely get this book as it give some side details, but otherwise take it or leave it.
