Summary

Return to the world of the Invisible Library for Irene's most perilous mission yet...

Librarian Spy Irene is heading into danger. Not for the first time, but could this be her last? She’s tasked with a terrifyingly dangerous solo mission to eliminate an old enemy, which must be kept secret at all costs. But even more troubling news emerges. Multiple worlds are disappearing – and the Library may have something to do with it.

Determined to uncover the truth behind the vanished worlds, Irene and her friends must descend into the unplumbed depths of the Library. And what they find will change everything they know. This may be Irene’s most dangerous assignment of her hazardous career.

The Untold Story is the unputdownable eighth book in the Invisible Library fantasy series by Genevieve Cogman. Genevieve is also the author of the Sunday Times bestselling Scarlet - which reimagines the tale of the Scarlet Pimpernel, but with vampires, mages and magic...

Critic reviews

"I absolutely loved this...flavoured with truly unique mythology and a dash of the eldritch. Such clever, creepy, elaborate world-building and snarky, sexy-smart characters!" (N. K. Jemisin on The Invisible Library)

"Irene is a great heroine: fiery, resourceful and no one’s fool, she has a wonderfully droll sense of humour – much like the novel itself." (Guardian on The Masked City)

"Brilliant and so much fun. Skullduggery, Librarians and dragons – Cogman keeps upping the ante on this delightful series!" (Charles Stross on The Burning Page)

10/10 Complete Package.

The whole series is magnificent. Can't tell you how much I've enjoyed. For anyone who likes 21C fantasy this series is a must with everything going for it. Fast paced wit & drama, great plots & twists, friendship, romance, intrigue & laugh out loud humour a plenty. Started out on the 1st 3 books reading the hard copy then found them narrated here. Christine Atherton is the fantastic narrator of the whole series giving it continuity. Christine's narrations of all the many characters are so well done! I'm now going to investigate other titles she's narrating on! The series author "Genevieve Cogman" is a TOTAL mind extraordinare! Such ideas & wit! These were her first rodeo into writing apparently, WOW! Somebody needs to give Ms Cogman all the fantasy fiction awards available already for this series!! I'm also going to be checking out everything else Ms Cogman has written now! Thanks Audible this of author + narrator coupling is an exceptionally good job. Well Done 😊

Brilliant story, hopefully not the end

I have truly loved this entire series. I suspect this may be the final book, and if that is the case. It is a fitting conclusion. Highly recommended

Very average

This was a little on the dull side.
And a little too draw out for me this time too, particularly the ending. Taken all-in-all though it was a reasonable resolution to the series. And, had Katherine been in any subsequent ones I wouldn’t have continued reading them anyway. Far too annoying a character.

The narrator was absolutely brilliant as always.
