Summary

Everyone has wanted their favorite book to be real, if only for a moment. Everyone has wished to meet their favorite characters, if only for a day. But be careful in that wish, for even a history laid in ink can be repaid in flesh and blood, and reality is far deadlier than fiction...especially on Addington Isle.

Winterset Hollow follows a group of friends to the place that inspired their favorite book - a timeless tale about a tribe of animals preparing for their yearly end-of-summer festival. But after a series of shocking discoveries, they find that much of what the world believes to be fiction is actually fact, and that the truth behind their beloved story is darker and more dangerous than they ever imagined. It's Barley Day...and you're invited to the hunt.

Winterset Hollow is as thrilling as it is terrifying and as smart as it is surprising. A uniquely original story filled with properly unexpected twists and turns, Winterset Hollow delivers complex, indelible characters and pulse- pounding action as it storms toward an unforgettable climax that will leave you reeling. How do you celebrate Barley Day? You run, friend. You run.

Disappointed

I loved the syntax and style of the author but the story was too repetitive, too long and predictable.
The narration was too fast.

Bonkers and overought.

I went into this book curious. It takes several twists into craziness I didn't expect. It is brutal, thought provoking, but also confusing overwritten. Overall it is sort of fun if you want something different.

Painful listening

This holds promise as a story, and I’m enthralled by the premise, but I have tried twice now to listen to the audiobook, and twice requested my credit back.

While I agree with another review that being narrated by the author brings positive qualities, I’m afraid his lack of clarity and slurred enunciation is so overwhelming that it drowns out the story itself. Words are run together, consonants barely featuring in some, and I have even slowed it down to 0.8x speed in order to be able to untangle words. This isn’t a problem with UK ears and a North American narrator, as I have coped with many others - including Deep South - without issue.

Please please consider a professional narrator for this book, as I would love to listen to it.

thought provoking

in general, I guessed how the tale would go,but it is so beautifully crafted,so sad and full of pathos. I like that the author is the narrator, for who else knows how the story should be told? a most memorable tale, much enjoyed and appreciated

I just loved it

firstly I did have to slow the narration down to 80 as it was hard to keep up sometimes but that might just be me,

I found the whole idea of this book fascinating and intriguing, the characters were complex and interesting and all were given their time in the book, I enjoyed the little snippets of poetry that were thrown in too, the main characters in the book held your attention at all times with the many twists and turns that happen along the way, I listened while I was working and found myself lost in winterset hollow, I have listened to the book twice now and I know I will listen to it again and again, looking forward to more from this author in the future

Refreshingly Brilliant

I really wasn’t sure about this book but it’s absolutely tantalising. It keeps you guessing and at the end you still will not know who’s side you are on. Stunning.

a great twisted tale

to startni will say the narrator is go fast and has to be slowed down, apart from that it's a gripping tale of menace and revenge. every character is described in great detail and you can imagine what's happening in the tale, listened go this many time already and recommended it to other too

Unreadably poor despite the promising premise

An engaging premise and some quality lore can’t rescue this book from the oddly pompous writing and hackneyed characterisation.
Reads like a self insertion fan fic written by someone who’s watched too many horror movies and is determined to prove they are clever.
The rhyming fable “tale within the tale” is far better quality than the rest. This writer probably has a good book in them, but this isn’t it.
