About this listen

In a distant world five times the size of planet Earth, dungeons and their dungeon cores have become the top of the food chain.

Millions of dungeons inhabit the planet, utilizing the various human kingdoms as a source of much-needed mana to facilitate their own growth; in turn, the humans delve into the dungeons and acquire their own power in the form of essence, which allows them to develop and enhance themselves in a multitude of different ways.

It is a symbiotic relationship that has lasted centuries and has brought about a measure of peace.

Far in the Northern wilds where no humans (and therefore - no dungeons) regularly frequent, a young man is left alone when his parents are murdered suddenly and unexpectedly.

Now, without friends, family, or even supplies, he embarks on a journey to find out who targeted his parents - and upon whom he needs to enact his revenge.

Along the way, he discovers something about himself that his parents said was impossible from the moment he was born.

Will he learn to control the new powers he has gained, or will his newly awakened dungeon core abilities consume him?

Contains LitRPG elements such as statistics and leveling. No harems and no profanity.

dungeon to be continued

I finished this book in 3 days.. I had to go to work.. aargh..

It includes a scenario I wouldn't have thought about giving the author a whole range of plots to devellop.

There is a really nice build up in the story. you van choose to stop reading after book 1 even with the suggestieve ending... but who are we kidding.. I already got book 2.

Jonathan Brooks jas a clear love of stats but they don't overpower the story.

The narator has a very smooth voice and keeps up with all the different caracters.

Interesting premise for a new series

With this new series, the author adds an interesting spin on the dungeon core style of litrpg, usually the dungeon has a fixed location and some sort of companion to give a wider view of that book's world, but in this one the dungeon is a person and so you get an interesting blend of an adventurer who is innocent in a lot of the way's of the world, but who also has a unique set of powers due to his dungeon core nature too.

The narration style had a somewhat subdued feel to it, which worked well for the nature of the main character, but some of the supporting cast might have benefited from a little more life in their tones.

Overall this was a strong opener to this series that didn't suffer from being the first book in a series.

Enjoyable but not deep

As a piece of lit RPG I generally enjoyed this book, it has some interesting set up but I didn't feel it fully realised the potential, leaving far too many hooks for the sequel to completely recommend on its own.

I also felt the main characters to be a little too shallow, even for the genre. Not dislikable, but without any real nuance in motivation.

Great start to a series

This book is very well written. I love the fact that it follows an unusual (non typical) dungeon core. I like the fact that the mc is different to the other cores in the world and how the cores view humans... I cant wait to listen to more of this series because I really want to know what will happen next.

A very easy and enjoyable listen.

Thankfully this book does NOT contain the erotica that other LitRPG authors are fond of.

a different kind of dungeon core

this book has a very different twist to dungeon core which I found highly entertaining...
and don't worry, you learn what it is in the first hour...

the story is very entertaining from start to stop with a vibrant world filled with enough lore to be believable as having existed for millennia.
The story has a predictable yet exiting direction from the start that keeps the MC relatable and I can't help but root for him throughout this book

Miles Meili does a adequate job narrating with his female voices needing a little work.
he never gets in the way of the story and I was never confused about who was talking, so it is mostly nit-picking

Fascinating insight into the untold story

I started this series with very little expectation, the whole perspective of the narrative seemed strange to me.

I have literally just finished this series and I have to say, it is absolutely incredible. The whole thing is a fascinating delve into the mind of essentially the unsung/invisible elements that comprise some of my favourite games, in various ways!

Extremely well written and thought out!

Incredible work.
