Summary
Star Dreadnought Bismarck is the Vrokan Empire’s latest weapon, a monstrous warship of a size and power never seen before that could turn the tide of the war.
It is the sixth year of the Void Wars, and only the allies of the Commonwealth remain standing against the unstoppable tide of the brutal Vrokan Empire, still unwilling to yield after numerous setbacks. When a fortuitous reconnaissance flight spots the behemoth leaving port, they know they must act before it can break out into open space, and begin its mission. Stopping the Bismarck will not be easy. At three kilometers long, armed with powerful guns, and protected by unbreachable armor, it is a ship built for one purpose: the destruction of anything it meets.
Knowing the danger, the Commonwealth musters every vessel they can find to contain the new threat. Untested battleships, lightly armored carriers, and numerous escort ships are hastily mobilized to hunt down and engage the Star Dreadnought before it can destroy the convoys keeping the Commonwealth from starvation and defeat. Leading the charge is the Mighty Hood, the aging but powerful battlecruiser, flagship of the fleet, and pride of the Commonwealth Navy.

World War II in space
this was a very interesting story like this storical novel set in the futuristic out of space really enjoyed listening to it the sound effects were fantastic I would highly recommend this book

Interesting play on a WW2 battle
Great narration and effects with an interesting twist on the famous WW2 sea battle. Spaceships instead of surface ships.

Forget the History.
This story is supposedly based around events at Scapa Flow during WW2, forget that and listen to it as a purely sci-fi fantasy novel and it's a good listen, historically if you think that way it is very annoying and although the concept may have been good for me it doesn't work. Nigel Peevers narration is excellent as usual and the soundscape is OK if a little Arcadian, many of the sound effects sound as if they are taken from a pinball machine and whoever heard of interspacial missiles being fired using a rubber band! I've not docked any stars however as I still found it a very entertaining listen and would if given the chance listen to more of the series.
I was kindly given a copy of the book and leave this honest review voluntarily. *****

Bismark
Excellent military SF. A no nonsense rendition of the allied hunt for the battleship Bismark set in the deep space of the far future. No padding with romances, political ramblings or other guff. just space battles and an intense hunt. Really enhanced by Nigel Peever's Excellent narration, sound FX and score. 5 stars.

Frustrating military sci-fi
By all accounts this novel stays fairly true to the historical events of the previous century. But does it transpose well into "military sci-fi"? Personally I felt this is where it struggles. The actual science described is minimal and does little to enhance the story unfortunately (lost count of the number of times the word "gimbal" is used). Despite the main characters sharing the names of their historical counterparts there's no connecting with them, no depth or individuality. The action is the most redeeming feature of the book and it appears it's what Michael G. Thomas excels at.
Nigel Peever gives a stirling performance and enhances the story with an amazing soundscape throughout. If it wasn't for his vocal talents I think I'd have lost track of the various nondescript characters. I know if I had tried reading this book myself I'd have given up in the first half that is for sure.
Personally I think I would have enjoyed this novel more if it had been written in it's original historical setting rather than a sci-fi retelling...
