Story
Seven years ago, six-year-old Maisie Earnshaw was found facedown in a duck pond, her body mutilated. Isabel - at age 14, found covered in Maisie's blood - was convicted of murder. As Leah spends time with Isabel, she comes to know her as a young woman with a sweet, gentle nature, someone she could never see as a murderer. Leah begins to suspect members of the Fielding family of framing Isabel as a young girl, and she's not the only one. True crime blogger James Gorden thinks Isabel is innocent, too.

Story
The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Story
Fran finds her standing by the swings. A little girl, Esther, no older than seven years old, by herself in the dead of night, her pretty but old-fashioned yellow dress covered in grass stains and her hair dishevelled. She says she's waiting for Father, and that strikes Fran as particularly odd. After Esther is reunited with her family, Fran can't stop thinking about this pious child whose imaginary friend is God. Fran's instincts tell her something is very wrong. Why does Esther keep running away from home, and how did she get that bruise on her leg?

Summary
Emma, Aiden and Gina stand on the brink of a new life. After the trauma of Aiden’s abduction and return, they are slowly healing and returning to a fragile normality. Emma is desperate to protect her children, but the world is fascinated by Aiden, the silent child who is finally learning to speak for himself.
Against her better judgment, Emma allows her son to attend a talk show. Her worse nightmare comes true when her daughter, Gina, is snatched from the studio and a chilling game begins.
Emma is convinced the answers lie in the darkest corners of the family’s past, and that Aiden must be able to work out the puzzle, if only he dare reach into the horrors of his memory.
But as the mystery deepens and Gina is still missing, the family must face a terrible question: is history repeating itself, or is there a new enemy to contend with?
Layered with emotion, and told from Aiden and Emma’s perspectives, the sequel to Silent Child is a dark and thrilling listen.

Excellent. Excellent. Excellent.
I had no idea there was a sequel to Silent Child until I had written the review and was about to download my next story. It was then that I saw this book and became curious. On reading the synopsis I admit that I exclaimed, "What? Now she loses her other child".
I tentatively purchased this book because I truly wanted to know 'what happens next' all the while deeply hoping it wouldn't shatter my perfect memory of the first book, I needn't have worried because this book was the perfect sequel.
In hindsight it now seems only right that the loose end from the first book - that I hadn't realised was so..."loose" - got sorted out.
I feel strangely proud of Aiden and how far he's come. There were a few eye-roll moments at the beginning of the book where Emma's "motherly love" felt as though it was smothering me, but she saw the error of her ways in the end.
These characters were so well written (and performed) that I feel they're real.
I highly recommend this book but make sure you listen to book 1, Silent Child, first. This isn't a stand-alone sequel if you get my drift, the first story is important in order to understand motivations and decisions in this book.

Suffers from the 2nd album syndrome
Having listened to and thoroughly enjoyed Silent Child book 1, I couldn't wait to hear book 2.
It is good in parts and it does complement Book 1 but it is so contrived and so unbelievable that it is very unsatisfactory. Its a shame as I wanted to love it.

The first book The Silent Child is one of the best books I’ve ever listened to. This sequel had a lot to follow up and it came off more hallow with way less impact. I enjoyed it and am glad I listened. It was fun to get to hear more from Aiden. The narration was incredible.

Utter rubbish! A book with no substance, totally predictable. Wound it on most the time just to get to the end. A waste of time and money.
