Summary

A murder at her beloved Sandringham House threatens to ruin Christmas for the Queen in the third mystery in the Her Majesty the Queen Investigates series.

December 2016 - A severed hand is found washed up on a beach next to the Queen's estate at Sandringham.

Elizabeth has become quite accustomed to solving even the most complex of murders. And though she quickly identifies the 70-year-old victim, Edward St Cyr, from his signet ring, the search for his killer is not so straightforward.

St Cyr led an unconventional, often controversial life, making many enemies along the way in the quiet, rural world of North Norfolk, where everyone knows each other's business.

But when a second man is found dead, and a prominent local woman is nearly killed in a hit-and-run, the mystery takes an even darker turn.

With the Christmas break coming to an end, the Queen and her trusted assistant Rozie must race to discover how the pieces of the puzzle fit together. Or the next victim may be found even closer to home.

Brilliant "read"

Another great investigation from Her Majesty. I'm always impressed by how many twists these books can have. Very well written and performed. I love Philip as well.

Entertaining

Enjoyable escapism, I don’t doubt the late Queen would of been capable of such behaviour , subtle direction, and humility.
Samantha Bond is the perfect narrator , lovely story to listen to while on the treadmill / knitting/ crafting. Looking forward to next in series .

Charming escapism

Slightly predictable outcomes but still enjoyable listening. The characters are fairly believable - even the royals. Mercifully low on ghastly repetition of cliches found in most contemporary light fiction.

Another great story

I've "read" all three of the books in the series and I enjoy them immensely. If I could find fault, it is in the gruesome events around the murders but I guess that's the point of a murder mystery, after all!

Samantha Bond is the perfect narrator, also.

Great fun

The right mix of humour, royal fact and total fiction with a good mystery. Nicely narrated too.

Enthralling

Another wonderful listen, read by the truly amazing Samantha Bond. Her voice is just magic and does full justice to the beguiling text

Great story and performance again!

TW of SA as a heads up, as it caught me off guard, and I needed to skip a bit, but I think it was handled well. It was also lovely to see a character with ME/CFS and to show the true impact of this illness while not making the character all about their condition.
Also, having visited Sandringham, I could tell where they were and even the ornaments and furniture they were referring to from the tour we had. The author has obviously done a lot of background research. Love it! A lovely tribute to Her Majesty!

Very enjoyable!

A great simple read/listen with great characters and plot. The true experiences the queen had is woven into the imaginary, very clever.
