Summary

They say only fools enter the tower....

All Max wants is to become a climber and search for his long-lost sister.

But citizens aren’t allowed to climb - they aren’t even allowed remotely in the vicinity of the mysterious and magical tower. Plus, even if citizens could enter, it didn’t change the fact that Max’s body is paralyzed from the waist down, confined to a wheelchair. No way would anyone let him enter the tower. Ever.

Yet one night, everything changes, and Max’s world is thrown upside down. He suddenly gains an ultra-rare ability and the chance to train and climb the tower.

But being a climber isn’t as easy as it sounds. Each floor of the tower contains vast worlds and deadly, magical monsters.

While Max may want to ascend to the top of the tower, there are plenty of others who want to as well, many who won’t blink an eye at removing anyone who stands in their way....

Tower Climber is the start of a brand-new LitRPG/progression fantasy series by Jakob Tanner, best-selling author of Arcane Kingdom Online. The story contains RPG mechanics, stats, and ranks as a form of power progression.

The loot

The main character kills a couple of people, but never take any of their belongings, like I wanna hear if the reckless brothers and archer had any artifacts or cores.

Listen a couple of hours. This is for around 20 years olds. Not my taste.

interesting to say the least

Jakob may as well have named the main character Harry Uzumake. I actually enjoyed the book but that's because I enjoyed Harry potter and Naruto, both which are heavily represented in this book. There wasn't a lot of originality though which was disappointing as the book could have went anywhere.
The main villains had (in my opinion) what should have been a devastating event happen in front of him and it wasn't even commented on or acknowledged. I could ramble on but would spoil the book for someone who potential could/would enjoy it.

Climbing author

This book has effort written all over it. Achieving this level of balance between story and the numbers so sought after in a LitRPG is commendable.

I can't wait for the next book!

Nice story with cheesy oneliners

I really enjoyed listening to the story.

There is a nice bit of character development and story progression which makes it quite enjoyable. The story is not too complex, which made it easy for me to listen to during my commute.

My biggest gripe is the cheesy oneliners during battles. During almost every battle at least one of the characters puts in a line like "You can't defeat me because of superior endurance stat", or "you don't know the power of my rare trade that does this to you".
I really think the script would be a lot better if these lines are rewritten into something more interesting.
Another minor gripe is that the stats are listed quite often, especially during the first half of the book. Sometimes it is quite irritating to hear a stats list five times in 30 minutes.

Overall I quite like the story and I think there is a lot of potential for the next books in the series.
